Lent, when you’re 8 or 9

This reflection is written by the children of year 4 in Christ the King School…

Lent is a time of self-sacrifice.

Christians make sacrifices because we want to be like Jesus.

We give up something (usually something we like eating or doing) for 40 days so we are closer to Jesus, following in his footsteps. We remember the time when he was in the desert, living without food or water.

We are also asked to pray more, love more, share more and think of other people more.

We know that it is hard to keep our Lenten promises; however, God will always forgive us and if we ask,  He will give us the determination to try again.

prayHeavenly Father,

Please help us to continue to keep our Lenten promises as we complete our 40-day journey with you.

Help us to resist temptation and to become closer to you through our prayers and actions.     Amen.
